Sustainable
Biobased replacement for fossil raw materials, lower production temperature of e.g. asphalt resulting in a reduction in natural gas, the possibility of (early) reaching transition objectives
Business as usual
Directly applicable in existing production processes, no major investments required, available in small packaging and bulk
Application
Can be used for binders and resins, high-quality construction materials, (bio) composites, use in polymers, concrete, and asphalt (Grasfalt® and Harsfalt®)
Lignin is a plant-based raw material that can be used as a replacement for petrochemical raw materials in, for example, asphalt, adhesives, and resins.
Miscancell has developed a unique method for refining lignin from miscanthus. Unlike lignin production from wood pulp, no sulfur is used in the process, making the lignin sulfur-free and cleaner, and therefore more widely applicable.
Fossil raw materials are becoming more scarce and more expensive and are not sustainable. As a young but experienced player in its field, Miscancell offers a sustainable and long-lasting alternative. Lignin from miscanthus can compete with the current solutions offered in the market.
Tests by market parties indicate that the quality of the lignin produced by Miscancell is of comparable or better quality (purity and sulfur-free) than the lignin currently offered on the market.
Miscancell has developed Grasfalt® in partnership and successfully applied it in various asphalt projects, both small and sizeable. In these cases, lignin from miscanthus replaces approximately half of the bitumen used in asphalt.
This leads to:
Today, Grasfalt® is a registered product and available to multiple infrastructure contractors and clients, such as local authorities, provinces, and the ministry of infrastructure.
